The Chamber of Deputies approved the PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) guaranteeing the payment of minimum wages to nurses. The surplus of public funds and the Social Fund will be used to finance sex in the public sector, as well as charities and service providers with a minimum of 60% of SUS (Sistema Único de Saúde) patients.
The permit was approved this Thursday afternoon (15) in two shifts through PEC 390/2014.
The law establishing the national level of nurses was approved by the National Congress and approved in August with a provision that nurses receive at least 4,750 reais. The base salary of nurse technicians should be 70% of this value (R$ 3,325) and the starting salary of nurse assistants and midwives should be 50% of the minimum wage (R$ 2,375).
However, on September 15, the law was suspended by the STF (Federal Supreme Court). According to the court’s decision, the suspension is necessary until the impact of this measure on the finances of states and municipalities is clarified.
At that time, Congress committed itself to finding a way out to guarantee the payment of the word. This Thursday, only the Novo party opposed the approval of the PEC. Other abbreviations announced a vote in favor of the proposal.
Proposal rapporteur, Deputy Alice Portugal (PCdoB-BA), stated that the text presented reliable sources of funding for the minimum wage. “Nursing, this large contingent of workers, most of whom are women, have been waiting for months for the implementation of a law already passed and approved by this chamber,” he said.
The PEC is now going to the Senate. According to the speaker, there is an agreement on fast voting, and with the passage of the law, “the STF will no longer have a reason to keep the suspension of the minimum wage.”
