In one week, the number of active cases of Covid-19 in Santa Catarina increased by 39%. The number of people infected with the virus that causes the disease – between November 26 and Friday (2) – reached 14,072, up 3,951 cases from the previous week. The data is contained in the weekly bulletin Necat (Núcleo de Estudos de Economia Santa Catarina), which analyzes the development of the disease in the state.

According to the study, the average daily number of Covid-19 entries has risen to 1,582 in the past seven days. “A much higher level than what was recorded at the end of July/22, when this average was about 1200 daily entries,” the study is assessed.
For Necat researchers, the rising number of cases suggests that the coronavirus began to circulate actively again in the last weeks of November in Santa Catarina. Until mid-October, there was a downward trend in the incidence.
According to the bulletin, this new acceleration of infections is due to a new variant of the coronavirus called BQ.1, which is circulating in Santa Catarina.
“This increase in active official records indicates a significant increase in population infection rates statewide, serving as a warning in virtually every region,” the report said.
Regions with a high number of cases
The study found that the Greater Florianopolis and Planalto Norte/Northeast regions account for 50% of all new cases reported in the state.
In Greater Florianopolis, even the most active cases. Approximately 25.5% of all active cases in the state are diagnosed in the region, according to the study. In the analyzed week, there were 3,595 positive people – the largest number.
Active cases by region in the last week
- Greater Florianopolis – 3,595 active cases;
- Plateau North and Northeast – 3430;
- South – 1892 active cases;
- Foz do Itajai – 1728 people;
- Itajai Valley -1559;
- Great West – 961;
- Midwest/Serra – 907;
General UK data in 2022
According to the data, 668,701 people were infected with the disease in Santa Catarina in 2022.
This year, approximately 2,294 people have died as a result of Covid-19, according to data recorded up to the last 2 days. In the last week alone, 20 deaths have been recorded.
According to the study, there has been a “new re-acceleration in the daily number of deaths” that has not been seen since August.
A total of 22,466 people have died from the disease since the start of the pandemic in the state.
Intensive care beds
Despite an increase in the incidence of the disease in the population of Santa Catarina, the situation did not have a serious impact on the state’s hospital area.
“ICU-SUS bed occupancy due to the disease, even with small fluctuations, remained low in all regions, while the overall ICU-SUS bed occupancy remained stable in almost all mesoregions of the state, but at a level still quite high in some regions , whose indicators exceeded 90%, ”the study notes.
According to the researchers, the low demand for hospitalization of people with Covid-19 is due to the “positive effect of completed vaccination of the population.” Because of this, they note that “it’s critical that people keep their vaccination schedule up to date.”
