Polio vaccination and multi-vaccination campaigns for children and adolescents under the age of 15 began this Friday morning (5) in Santa Catarina. Campaigns run simultaneously in all municipalities of the state from next Monday (8) to 9 September. D-Day, the Saturday of the state mobilization on which the vaccination posts are open, will be August 20.

Head of Health Surveillance Eduardo Macario explained that the focus is on updating the national immunization map: “The child will arrive at the health center and his booklet will be checked. If a child needs more than one vaccine, the immunizer should give them all at the same time.”

“The polio vaccination campaign shows non-selective vaccination of children aged 1 to 5 years (4 years, 11 months and 29 days) with OPV, provided they have already received three doses of the basic VIP regimen,” SES said.

Children under one year of age should be vaccinated according to the vaccination status established for the main calendar: 1st dose at 2 months, 2nd dose at 4 months and 3rd dose at 6 months with VIP vaccine. Estimated audience – 488,948 children aged 0 to 4 years.

As part of the multi-vaccination campaign, all vaccines from the National Immunization Schedule will be offered to children and adolescents under the age of 15. During the campaign period, children and teenagers can also be vaccinated against Covid-19. According to the instructions of the Ministry of Health, it is no longer necessary to wait for the 15-day interval for the use of the Covid-19 vaccine and other doses of the National Immunization Schedule in children from 3 years of age. Therefore, doses can be taken simultaneously or at any interval.
