On Tuesday morning (12) in Santa Catarina, at least ten people were waiting for a bed in the intensive care unit. According to the SES (department of health), three patients under the age of 13 and seven more were waiting for an adult bed in intensive care.

For infants, the folder reported that on Tuesday morning, only one patient was waiting in the neonatal intensive care unit. He was in the process of being transferred, “already with a bed offered, he is in the southern area of Santa Catarina,” the note said.
Three patients waiting for a pediatric bed are under 13 years of age. Those waiting in the adult intensive care unit are over the age of 14, according to the ministry.
The queue arises both due to capacity and due to the lack of special beds for certain diseases that require isolation or require specific treatment, for example.
Only one baby bed available
Of the patients under the age of 13 waiting for a pediatric bed, two have respiratory problems and one due to the need for a specialized service for other diseases, the secretary said. Santa Catarina has 15 active group beds.
The SUS Bed panel shows that there is only one pediatric bed in the Foz do Itajaí region. The children awaiting care are from the South (two) and the other from the Great West – both regions are 100% full.
ICU for adults filled
Adult ICUs were 100% full at the time of the SES update. Of the seven patients waiting for a bed, one has a respiratory condition, and the remaining seven need a specialized bed for other conditions.
Adult patients are divided into North and Northeast Plateau (three), Serra (one), Grande Oeste (two) and South (one). Among them, one of the patients was waiting for the transfer procedure. Santa Catarina has 35 active group beds.
Last Friday (8) it was confirmed that a six-month-old baby died in Tres Barras, north of Santa Catarina, who died while awaiting transfer to the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital in Jaragua do Sul.
“The Santa Catarina State Department of Health announces that all patients awaiting transfer to the intensive care unit are receiving full care,” the note to the folder reads.
