The problem of a shortage of doctors at the Augusta Müller Boner Children’s Hospital in Chapeco, west of Santa Catarina, was the subject of a conciliatory hearing this Wednesday afternoon (29) at the city’s district forum.
The hearing was attended by representatives of the Municipality of Chapeco and the Association of Hospitals of Lenoir Vargas Ferreira, which manages the Western Regional Hospital and the Children’s Hospital.
The municipality has pledged to allocate 40 hours per week to the pediatric department. Starting care for a new pediatrician should be immediate. The clinical staff of Hospital da Criança consists of 15 doctors, six of whom are paediatricians.
With consent, approved by Judge Surami Juliana Santos Herdt of the District Court for Children and Youth, the trial was terminated. The reconciliation hearing was the result of a public civil suit by the Department of Government seeking to increase the number of pediatricians in the medical facility.
