The management of the San Donato hospital in Isar, in the south of Santa Catarina, has ordered the temporary closure of the maternity hospital due to problems with the recruitment of specialists. This space is currently the benchmark for humanized SUS (Single Health System) births.
“The doctor injured her arm and was unable to be on duty during the day. As a result, the delivery schedule was compromised, and we decided to temporarily suspend the provision of the service until we close the schedule for all days and hours. It was a security measure,” Julio de Luca, administrative director of the hospital, told ND+.
The orientation is that pregnant/parturient women seek care at the Mother and Child Hospital in Crisium. “We have already informed the hospital management, Sam and the fire department that we will not visit the maternity hospital due to a lack of specialists,” the director said.
According to him, this Monday (13) a meeting with specialists from the obstetric center is scheduled. The goal is to find alternatives to solve the situation. The place remains closed.
overcrowded
There is concern about the state of maternity hospitals in the south of the state. Nossa Senhora da Conceição Hospital in Tubarão on Tuesday (7) issued an overcrowding alert for the obstetric center for both maternity/delivery and delivery, up 20% from the average recorded in previous months.
Also in the direction of the hospital, certificates for high-risk pregnancy, only this week there were 245 consultations and 92 births. The increase is significant compared to the previous months’ average of 213 consultations and 76 deliveries over the same period.
“The increase in this demand directly reflects the overcrowding of neonatal intensive care units, and this is clearly caused by several factors, including the closure of obstetric centers related to our region,” explained Eduardo Ali, CTO of HNSC.
The orientation of the hospital is such that patients seek help only in emergency cases, in the presence of factors that negatively affect the course of pregnancy and are not treatable in health centers, clinics or hospitals in their city.
In a statement, management also asked women in labor to be patient as priority is given to women who have gone into labor and those who are at greater risk due to high demand.
In addition, the hospital confirmed that she would not fail to provide assistance to any pregnant or childbirth, “but she needs the cooperation and understanding of everyone in order to continue to support humane and quality care.”
