New duo debut Cannes this season, but no, this time it’s not about movies. The most anticipated French Spring Festival has always attracted the fashion world as well, and how can we not take advantage of all the spotlights on the French Riviera? Donatella Versace and Dua Lipa in fact, they will be presenting their See Now, Buy Now collaborative collection right here on May 23rd, and expectations are already sky high. It will be called Holiday and the title already tells us the theme of this exclusive collaboration that arrives just in time to be on display all summer long. Indeed, it will be available in store and online on the luxury home’s website immediately after the show.
Collaborations with younger and more established designers, from Christopher Kane to Kim Jones, have always inspired Donatella Versace, but this time the novelty is undeniably participation of a mega-pop star in a fashion collection. But you know, different worlds of art often intertwine, always creating something magical and special. “I have always been inspired by the collaborative design process. Working with Dua on this collection has been a lot of fun and I love the dynamic between us,” Donatella told WWD. “Dua is strong, fearless and free, and her creative vision is outstanding. Summer is a magical time. We will capture this feeling and the colors of that time of year with a very special and intimate fashion show at Cannes.”
On the other side, Dua Lipa of course, did not hide his madness about this exciting debut: “I am completely delighted that I signed women’s collection Holiday for Versace with Donatella. Over the years, we have developed such a strong bond with her, and I am very grateful for the support that I received from her and the entire team from the very beginning of my career. To have the honor of co-designing this collection with her and letting my summer inspirations run wild was a dream come true. I am so proud of this collection and can’t wait to debut at Cannes.” In fact, the connection between the chief creative officer of a luxury brand and a pop singer is not new. In addition to numerous collaborations on various red carpets, it was with Versace that Dua Lipa was able to walk the fashion catwalk for the first time.
It was September 2021 when the singer opened and closed the Versace show during Milan Fashion Week, walking down the runway in two different dresses, just to the beat of her hit “Physical.” So who knows what surprises they will have in store for us at this highly anticipated fashion show. Two strong women like them teaming up in this new adventure certainly promise good results..
