How are you? This is the simplest, but at the same time the deepest, primordial question that binds two people to their own being. This is the first form of interest in the other, the first acquaintance with each other, like the meeting of two strangers sitting at the table for the first time. These two occupied places correspond to two personalities.
From those busy chairscreative idea of the architect, artist and designer Gaetano Pesce for the scenography of the Bottega Veneta fashion show Spring-Summer 2023 held in September last year and which is now also turning into book And in exhibition in Miami.
Commissioned by creative director Mathieu Blazythe work, for which Pesce had absolute carte blanche, included a sculpted resin floor and 400 chairs, also in resin, characterized by a palette of vibrant colors, sometimes hand-painted. Each chair was unique and different from the others. Just like every person who sat down when they attended a fashion show.
Cooperation was a great success, so much so that now on occasion Miami designin will continue its cycle with Exhibition within the framework of the fair, which will be held from November 30 to December 4, where it will be presented by Gaetano Pesce himself and a selection of seats will be available for sale How are you?.
“This chair is a tribute to diversity. It’s about being human: we’re all different. People who say we’re all the same, fuck them! We are all different and this is our distinguishing feature, otherwise we are just a copy. We are all originals and this is one of the themes of my design.Gaetano said. But there is more. Because, as we thought at the beginning, How are you? it also became a book by order Bottega Veneta with Gaetano Pesce and Mathieu Blazy. This limited edition explores the idea, approach and process of collaboration, revealing many connections between creative practices and values of Pesce and Blazy. Contributions from Blazy and Design Miami curator Maria Cristina Didero and an interview between Gaetano Pesce and art curator Hans Ulrich Obrist document the origins of the project and its place in Pesce’s broader oeuvre, while a live selection of photographs by Stephen Shore and Sander Muylaert illustrate the design and manufacture of the chair.
With the volume in your hands, you are immediately immersed in the design of the created chairs with an atypical profile that resembles them in shape and a cover inspired by the same materials used, resin and canvas. And just like the chairs, the cover of each book is unique and speaks directly to us, setting up a dialogue: How are you?
