Denim? Yes, but stable. The debate about the need for a more sustainable, conscious and circular fashion system – with a particular focus on fast fashion – is writing a new chapter under the banner of the project. New x Zara jeans design. This time the main characters are no longer (only) denim trends, but values. Safe, recycled and renewable materials that extend the life of our clothing.
Sustainable denim: Jeans Redesign x Zara project
The Jeans Redesign project, curated by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, is a project based on the experience of a team of more than 80 experts from universities, fashion brands, retailers, manufacturers, collectors and non-governmental organizations, which, as Zara explains on the project’s webpage : “Together they defined design principles and adapted jeans for today’s circular economy.” The Spanish colossus of inexpensive fashion was no stranger to their craftsmanship: The Zara Empire collaborated with The Jeans Redesign to create a denim collection. designed and developed based on circular economy principles.
How do you make sure a pair of jeans and a denim jacket are actually recyclable? The goal of The Jeans Redesign x Zara project was to use at least 98% cellulose fibers such as cotton or viscose, which facilitate the recycling process. At least 5% of already recycled fibers are added to the composition of denim, which obviously come from textile sources and reduce the consumption of virgin raw materials.
As for the rest of the components, they are all designed for reuse and recycling. This applies to removable buttons, as well as the absence of rivets and metal loops. Instead, a label created specifically for the project is required: during our sales sessions, we will be able to identify the garments from The Jeans Redesign x Zara collection with an internal label that will make them instantly recognizable. Finally, a never predictable concept: few but good items. A pencil skirt with a front slit, straight-cut jeans, a jacket that also uses the concept of a shirt, and a jumpsuit. Only the essentials that last with time and never tire us.
