Rusty Gunsmith Sentenced to Prison for Killing a Director of Photography During a Film Recording
Hannah Gutierrez Reed’s trial ended Monday
The filming of Rusty was marked by a tragedy, as a result of which the director of photography died. Galina Hutchins, in addition to the fact that director Joel Souza was seriously injured. The case was considered in 2021, until then investigations and trials are ongoing, including in the case Hannah Gutierrez Reed who was sentenced to 18 months prison for manslaughter.
During the trial the judge Mary Marlowe Sommer said that Gutierrez Reed showed no remorse for his actions (via Variety):
“You single-handedly turned a safe weapon into a deadly one. If you hadn’t done this, Hutchins would still be alive, the husband would have a partner, and the little boy would still have a mother.
Gutierrez attempted to apply for parole, stating:
“When I started working on Rust, I was young and naive, but I took my work as seriously as I could. Despite lacking the necessary time, resources and personnel, when the situation reached an impasse, I did everything I could to cope… I ask you to give me more time. “The jury believes that I am partly to blame for this tragedy, but that doesn’t make me a monster, it makes me human.”
Gutierrez had already been held at the Santa Fe Detention Center since March, 6 and the judge in the case received a memo about calls Gutierrez made from prison that showed she had no remorse and continued to play blame others and even went so far as to call the jury members idiots. At the same time, Marlowe Sommer request for parole deniedbut the gunsmith will try to appeal the decision.
Besides Gutierrez, Alec Baldwin, who fired the gun, was also charged with manslaughter in January for pulling the trigger. ABOUT judgment planned to be held in July.
