Marvel Announces Layoffs Following New Restructuring
Layoffs affected newcomers to the company
According to The Hollywood Reporter, approximately 15 production and development employees were laid off this Monday (15). MarvelEntertainmentin New York and Marvel Studiosin Burbank.
The move comes after an internal restructuring proposed by Disney’s CEO. Bob Iger, which involves producing fewer films and TV series to focus on quality. In 2024, only one film, Deadpool and Wolverine, and two game series, Eco and Agatha, are predicted to be released.
With fewer people dedicated to creating new projects, Marvel is preparing to work on fewer films and TV shows at once, reducing the long-term amount of content available per year.
The portal also indicates that better streamlining of internal processes by transferring requirements previously attributed to Marvel Entertainment to other subsidiaries of the parent company also partially contributed to the layoffs.
