Jodie Foster on superhero movies: ‘I hope people get tired of them soon’
The actress believes that the superhero phase has expired.
Known for her work in major film hits such as Silence of the Lambs (1991) and Taxi driver (1976), Jodie Foster gave an interview to a magazine Elle (via ComicBook.com), who asked her opinion about superhero movies. According to the actress, this dominance of the format has already expired.
In the conversation, Foster called out the popularity of productions featuring people with superpowers “A Phase That Lasted Too Long”. The artist also stated that she hopes the public “I’ll soon get tired of them”:
“This is a phase. For me this stage lasted too long, but it is a stage. And I’ve seen many different phases. I hope people get tired of them soon. Good films like Iron Man, Black Panther and The Matrix amaze me with these films and delight me with the entertainment they provide, but that is not why I became an actress. These films don’t change my life. I hope there’s room for other things.”
This isn’t the first time Jodie Foster has criticized superhero films. Like other Hollywood names such as Martin Scorsese and Ridley Scott, the actress is not a big fan of the genre and already said in 2017 that the format “destruction” cinematic experience (via Telegraph).
Oscar winner Foster will return to the small screen for the fourth season of the series. True Detective, an HBO anthology series about the investigation of creepy cases. The premiere of the new chapter is scheduled for January 14, 2024and the actress came to CCXP23 to promote her work on the program.
