Why didn’t Tom Cruise direct Iron Man? The reason was explained in a new book about Marvel

In recent days, the book has revealed various information about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and behind the scenes of Marvel Studios. MCU: Reign of Marvel Studios, which brought some news from the company’s history. And in one of the chapters rumors spread that Tom Cruise is almost the most iron Man were addressed.
According to the book (via CBM) Tom Cruise ‘flirted with the idea of playing [Tony] Stark”, however, the idea was not developed. After years of rumors on the subject, when a special appearance was again proposed in the magazine Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessMarvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained why the actor was not chosen for the role in 2008:
“The amount Cruise was asking for at the time was more than a rich studio like Fox was willing to risk for an untested superhero property.”
According to the book, Marvel couldn’t pay big names for the role, including Johnny Depp, who was also allegedly in the running. For this reason, the studio looked to smaller names such as Timothy Olyphant, Jim Caviezel and finally Downey Jr., who had proven himself in the role.
