A bug on the cover of the new Marvel comic changes the skin tone of the heroine
The artist apologized for what happened, and an updated cover was published
after artist Mark Brooks share the cover of an upcoming Marvel event, Judgment Day, what will put eternal against Avengers and x-men, he received several criticisms due to the change in skin tone Makkari, who, since being resurrected in the team’s new comic, now presents herself as a woman with a skin tone similar to that of the actress who plays her in theaters, Lauren Ridloff.
As you might expect, many criticized the cover art and the change in skin tone. Makkari, who was a white man in the comics before the changes in the current comics. However, Brooks took to his Twitter to explain the reason for his light skin tone, as well as reveal the updated cover of the edition.
In your twittersharing the updated cover, he said:
“About Makkari on the cover of Judment ay #5. It was originally painted in a darker tone, but it ended up becoming lighter when I made filters for the entire cover. I forgot to go back and fix it before posting. The final cover will have the correct skin tones.”
After many continued to criticize the artist, he again came out in defense, making it clear that this is just a mistake in creating lighting and using filters, and not an active choice:
“I take the portrayal, skin tone and characteristics of my characters very seriously. See my Storm on the same cover. This was an unintentional and honest mistake in the final lighting, which will be corrected in the printed cover.”
Just as the problem of characters with darker skin tones is getting more and more “lightened” in comics, as has already been pointed out in characters like Miss America Chavez this is sun spot, it really looks like it was just a lighting bug. In Brooks’ earlier work for the same saga, Makkari appears with the current skin tone correctly represented.
