The government is exploring the possibility of creating stipends of around 7,000 euros a year for opponents of positions in the Treasury, mainly inspectors, but also in customs or cadastre, the ministry’s secretary of state, Jesús Gascon, told Congress on Monday. .

During his speech at the Commission for Finance and Public Affairs, Gascon noted that work is already underway on a pilot program of 30 scholarships for a total of 210,000 euros.

As he explained, the program will be applicable to all opponents in the field of public finance, such as customs officials, cadastres, architects or engineers. However, sources in the Ministry of Finance confirmed Europe Press what would the inspectors have allocated, given the greater number of seats.

The main goal of this program will be to “strengthen the pool of opponents” so that those people who have difficulty preparing for the opposition receive financial assistance in their preparation.

The finance minister has also articulated this new program in the latest civil service proposal approved by the government to counter a wave of retirements that will hit the tax administration particularly hard.

According to Finance Technicians, 2,017 people will retire between 2021 and 2023, and the situation will worsen in the next two legislatures, where another 5,797 and 5,726 employees will retire, respectively. In other words, by 2031, 54.2% of current tax officials will retire.
