This Friday, Repsol acquired Asterion Energies, the European infrastructure fund Asterion Industrial, for €560m plus contingent payments of up to €20m. The operation is a “major milestone” for the company, which, “with its ambition to become a global player in the field of renewable energy”, is strengthening its position in key markets in Europe, while also accelerating its growth in the field of renewable energy.

A development platform established by Asterion in 2019, Asterion Energies manages a portfolio of projects, mainly 7,700 renewable megawatts (MW) under development in Spain (84%), Italy (12%) and France (4%), stable markets and with great potential. Asterion Energies’ asset portfolio includes 4,900 MW of solar PV and 2,800 MW of wind generation, of which 2,500 MW are at an advanced stage of development or under construction.

The company also has a team of renewable energy and storage project development experts that will be included in Repsol’s ambitious business development project.

Repsol CEO Josu John Imaz emphasized that they are pursuing their ambition to be “leaders in the energy transition by taking firm steps such as asset acquisitions to achieve our goals of growth, diversification and focus on multi-energy. The projects and human talent we are bringing to this deal complement our strategy perfectly.”
