Between November 28 and December 2 this year, the National Market and Competition Commission (CNMC) carried out inspections at the headquarters of several operators in the Spanish energy sector following various complaints. In addition, it launched an investigation into various operators operating in the Spanish energy sector for possible anti-competitive practices. If confirmed, they could constitute a violation of articles 1 and 2 of the Law on Protection of Competition and 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, the agency said.

The Committee recalled that anti-competitive practices and abuse of dominance constituted a very serious breach of competition law, which could result in fines of up to 10% of the total turnover of infringing companies in the year immediately preceding the introduction of excellent.

If, as a result of the inspection, evidence of actions prohibited by the Law on Protection of Competition and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union is found, disciplinary proceedings will be officially initiated.
