Activist group Greenpeace has planted four meter-high piles of rubbish in downtown Madrid to protest Black Friday “waste”. Several people climbed these mountains of waste with protest posters that read “Your profit, your waste” and “Brands are eating us up.”

With this action, organized under the slogan “Made to Quit”, the organization wants to condemn the “Black Friday nonsense” that “six times the CO2 emissions in commercial premises.” According to Greenpeace, “U.S. e-commerce revenue alone emits 15 million tons of CO2.”

For an environmental organization, “Black Friday and other purely consumer ‘holidays’ are enriching some companies at the expense of the planet, health and workers’ rights.”
