Balneario Camboriú, located on the north coast of Santa Catarina, tops another ranking even more pocket-friendly. According to the latest study by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels ANP (National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) published this Monday (17), the city has the most liters of gasoline in Brazil.

A liter of gasoline cost 7.35 reais at a gas station in the city, only the regular version was 0.10 reais cheaper than the additive version, data taken from the ANP.

The city differs from the state’s average gasoline price of R$4.85 per liter between October 9 and 15. During the same period, diesel fuel cost an average of 6.42 reais.

New gain after 15 weeks

The price of gasoline at gas stations in the country rose by 1.47% according to the weekly survey conducted by the ANP. The latest edition of the survey, published this Monday, showed that Brazilian consumers paid an average of R$4.86 per liter per week from October 9 to 15.

The increase was recorded after 15 consecutive weeks of declines and followed a new rise in gasoline at the Maritape refinery, the country’s largest private sector-controlled refinery. Acelen, the company responsible for the operation, announced on Saturday (15) a 2% adjustment. It has already corrected the values ​​7 days ago by 9.7%.

Acelen ads follow the trends of the international market. The price of a barrel of Brent oil, which dropped sharply to $82 in September, has again topped $90 this month. Growth was influenced by the decision of OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) to sharply cut production.

However, Petrobras has not announced any price changes at its refineries for more than a month. The latest change was a 7% cut announced in early September.

Since 2016, Petrobras has adopted a PPI (import parity price) policy that links domestic prices to international market prices. The benchmark is a barrel of Brent oil quoted in dollars.

According to the PPI, fuel prices rose sharply in the first half of the year, which led to the expression of discontent from the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro.

In May, he changed the state company team for the fourth time in his term, appointing Cayo Mário Paez de Andrade. Bolsonaro also edited a temporary measure, later approved by Congress, that cut taxes and helped drive fuel prices down.

However, there were no reports of changes in the consumer price index. On social media, opposition MPs have warned that the government is pressuring Petrobras to hold prices in the midst of an election process.

The second round will take place on October 30. In response, Bolsonaro published publications arguing that the exemption kept prices at current levels and therefore made food cheaper.

Abicom (Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers) estimates that the average cost of gasoline at the country’s refineries is 0.30 reais per litre, or 8%, behind. The company monitors changes almost daily, taking into account the PPI.
