pensioners from different venues will demonstrate next Saturday in Madrid.

Movements of pensioners from different autonomous communities have convened a demonstration in the Spanish capital on October 15 next year to demand a revaluation of pensions, taking into account the increase in the annual cumulative CPI and a minimum pension of 60% of the average salary.

Among the various organizing platforms are organizations of pensioners from Galicia, Andalusia, Extremadura, the Basque Country and Madrid, as well as the State Coordinator for the Protection of the Public Pension System (Coespe), the Association for Early Retirement Without Punishment (Asjubi40). and the General Confederation of Labor (CGT).

The demonstration, which will take place at noon from Plaza de Neptuno to Callao, will be the first step in a general mobilization that the organizers plan to carry out in November in cities and communities to continue defending their demands, reports Europa Press.

In addition to demanding revaluation of pensions using the CPI, they demand an audit of social security accounts and demonstrate their “rejection of the privatization of the state pension system (SPS)”.

poverty pensions

Retiree association conveners denounce that while some communities are cutting taxes, such as the Patrimony, minimum and non-contributory pensions are “poverty.”

They also remember that pensions lost 3% of their purchasing power in 2021 and salaries and pensions lost more than six points of purchasing power during 2022.

Faced with this, they criticize, the Ibex 35 companies are breaking record profits, reaching 48,868 million euros in the first half of the year.

“The fundamental cause of rising prices is not wages or pensions: it is those who, under a monopoly regime, set prices in order to maintain and increase their outrageous benefits,” they denounce.

“We will remain on the street until we cancel the counter-reforms that are being imposed on us, we end the gender gap in wages and pensions, we don’t abolish the punishment for early retirement with long service, we restore the rights lost in subsequent work and pension reforms ensure an equitable distribution of wealth and improve and guarantee universal and quality public and public services,” the organizers warn.
