While on the left bank of the Itajai-Azú River, the Port of Itajai is going through a difficult moment in the privatization process that promises to increase the competitiveness and flexibility of one of the main Brazilian ports on the right bank, Portonave reports that September 2022 has entered the history of the terminal.

The port of Navegantes, on the north coast of Santa Catarina, set a new record for handling cargo in its port in September 2022. 15 years of operation, in addition to registering the best month of the year.

Portonave reports that in numbers that easily exceed 2021, gate access has broken the record for truck entry and exit of 2,600 in a single day.

For comparison, in 2022 Portonave processed 487 thousand containers from January to September of the current year against 479 for the same period last year.

September ended with the movement of 110,700 TEU (a unit of measure equivalent to a 20-foot container), which also surpassed the previous record of 109,000 set in September 2021.

There were 40,900 containers in export, with main destinations USA, China, Mexico, Japan and South Africa.

In imports, the movement reached 44.4 thousand, retaining the main origin China, USA, Belgium, Germany and Colombia.

In February of this year, Portonave registered a transshipment of 10 million TEU, making it the only port in Santa Catarina to reach the milestone, in addition to remaining among the national leaders as Brazil’s second largest container handling port.

In total, until September 2022, 10.8 million TEUs, that is, on the way to 11 million TEUs.

Portonave is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2022 with 8,200 import and export vessel calls, in addition to special cargo such as military aircraft, boats, helicopters and others.
