The draft Santa Catarina budget for 2023 entered the process last Tuesday (4) and must be approved by Alesk (State Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina) before the start of the parliamentary recess at the end of the year, that is, until December 23.
According to the bill, the total income for 2023 is estimated at 44 billion reais, which is 16.5% more than what was planned for 2022. Most of them will go to education: 8.8 billion reais. This is followed by healthcare with a forecast of 5.6 billion reais.
The draft for 2023 was sent by the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly, MP Moasir Sopelsa (MDB), when he was acting Governor of the state, which ended last Friday (30). He noted that next year’s budget proposal is the largest in the history of Santa Catarina.
“This is a record budget in all areas,” the deputy said. “This is the budget in full condition for execution. Before, you had to do gymnastics to make a budget that matched the recipe.”
Moasir Sopelsa stressed the importance of investing in road maintenance to avoid higher costs in the future.
“In the infrastructure sector, until 2019 we had about 30 million reais for road maintenance. Next year, this amount will reach 600 million reais,” he said.
“The maintenance of public goods should be like this. A hole opens on the highway, soon it becomes a funnel, then two and the asphalt is completely destroyed. Thanks to these maintenance resources, we avoid higher costs in the future,” concludes Sopelsa.
As determined by the By-Laws of the Legislative Assembly, the Budget Bill will be reviewed by the Finance and Tax Commission before being voted on in the plenary session.
