The government of Santa Catarina is due to send the draft budget for 2023 to Alesk (South Carolina Legislature) this week. The document must be evaluated by the deputies of the state within two months.
The bill provides for a net distribution of 28.65 billion reais, divided among other things into agriculture, public security, infrastructure. For education and health, the government provides transfers of 5.66 billion reais and 8.85 billion reais, respectively, the largest among the portfolios.
According to the SEF (State Department of Finance), the estimated total income is 44.11 billion reais. BRL 128 million is also planned for investment in the expansion, renovation and refurbishment of 12 hospitals of the public health network and a rehabilitation center, as well as BRL 75 million for the construction of a cardiology institute.

Education gets more
According to the government of Santa Catarina, the budget for education should be more than 8.85 billion reais for 2023. The contribution is equivalent to 25.10% RRI (resulting income from taxes) excluding the cost of inactive servers.
Of these, 2.68 billion reais correspond to the resources of Fundeb (Foundation for the Maintenance and Development of Basic Education). The amount will be used in works, equipment, creating spaces for innovation in the State Education Network.
Some of the resources, if the project is approved, will be used in programs such as Uniedu and the Student Scholarship to combat school dropout, the government of Santa Catarina emphasizes. They should receive 220 million reais and 210 million reais. respectively..
The budget of Udesc (University of the State of Santa Catarina) is estimated at 763.64 million reais.
Public safety, infrastructure and agriculture
For public safety, transfers in the amount of 3.65 billion reais are provided. “Resources will be used to protect Santa Catarina, to maintain services, to improve, equip, and to monitor policies and programs aimed at reducing crime in the state,” the head of SEF explained.
A portion of the SDS will be used to provide shelter and financial support for women who have experienced domestic violence. The program should receive 15.80 million reais.
Infrastructure in Santa Catarina will receive a contribution of 2.69 billion reais in 2023 from its own resources alone. This amount will be used for the restoration of roads, works and other activities. According to Secretary of State Paulo Eli, a loan operation to finance the state’s strategic development projects worth about 1 billion reais is also projected, as authorized by Law No. 17,186 of 2017.
