Business Federation Council of the UK, COFFEM It is made up of the state’s largest and most important manufacturing sector federations.

Consists of federations of industry (FIESC), commerce (FECOMÉRCIO), agriculture (FAESC), transport (FETRANCESC), business associations (FACISC), chambers of shopkeepers (FCDL), micro and small enterprises (FAMPESC). Sebrae-SC.

And this Monday morning (26) COFEM met in Florianopolis with the topic on the agenda:

Port of Itajai.

It is worth recalling that Santa Catarina’s manufacturing sector recently sent a letter to the Federal Court of Audit (TCU), the Ministry of Infrastructure, the National Water Transport Agency and the National Secretariat of Ports and Water Transport expressing concerns about the bidding process. to privatize the port of Itajai.

At the meeting this Monday, Ecclecio da Silva, a lawyer and member of the Port Affairs Committee of the Itajaí Business Association (ACII), attended a debate with representatives of the federations.

In a letter sent to Brasilia, COFEM says it does not agree with the manifesto of ABTP, the Brazilian Association of Port Terminals, on the bidding process for the privatization of the ports of Itajaí and San Sebastian (SP), according to the association’s dossier. addressed to GTS, 29 August.

“Our concern is heightened when the manifesto includes a requirement that the privatization notice establish an express prohibition on the participation of Maersk and MSC, as well as companies whose share capital has an interest in any interest in Maersk and MSC,” the document emphasizes. COFFEE.

The two giants, the Danish Maersk and the Swiss-Italian MSC, which will not be allowed by public notice to participate in the desaatization process, are global examples of governance and respect in this sector.

So much so that MSC owns the port of Navegantes and needs no introduction when it comes to successful management.

Just look at the numbers private terminal.

COFEM adds in a statement based on the TCU manifesto that in such processes “arbitrary discrimination is not permitted in the selection of a contracting party, and a uniform approach to similar situations is inevitable, given that bidding is intended to guarantee not only the selection of the most advantageous proposal for the Administration, but also observance of the constitutional principle of isonomy”.

Other questions have been raised by the manufacturing sector, which confirms that the negative economic and social impacts that may arise if ABTP positioning is considered must be taken into account:

1 – Brazil has a meager share in international trade, according to ITC – Trade Map, only 1.3%. Of the total exports, the main products are the main products, which account for about 49% of exports.

2 – Considering that the country needs to increase the share of higher value-added cargo to better fit into international trade, and that these cargoes are necessarily containerized, in addition to the fact that the main lines of this type of cargo are concentrated in the northern corridor – the USA – Asia and Europe, we have difficulty in providing specialized lines for the main markets.

3 – In this sense, the participation of the ports of Santa Catarina and Santos is strategic and important, since they handle about 6 million TEU, which is approximately 51% of the country’s cargo turnover (Source: ANTAQ 2021). In this context, in 2021, the Santa Catarina ports of Navegantes and Itapoa ranked second and fifth, respectively, in the Brazilian ranking of this type of cargo. Thanks to outstanding handling, Santa Catarina accounted for 20.7% of container handling in the country.

4. These figures in Santa Catarina are mainly due to the large industrial production of 52,100 enterprises established in the state, employing 804,400 workers (Source: RAIS 2020 – Ministry of Economy), which greatly contributed to the state’s GDP of 400 reais . billion (Source: SDS-SC). Industries that were also responsible for most of Santa Catarina’s $35.2 billion trade flow in 2021, and which are dominated by value-added products in exports and important inputs for industrial activity in imports.

5 – The high industrial activity combined with the natural conditions expressed in our sheltered bays and estuaries have made it very attractive to investors, especially MSC (Porto de Navegantes) and MAERSK (Porto Itapoa). These investments have solidified the state as a strategic hub for value-added cargo. Undoubtedly, one of the most important port complexes in South America, surpassing several countries in the region in terms of traffic.

6. Being an important logistics center for the transport of value-added goods benefits both the country and the cities in which these ports are located, such as, for example, Imbituba, Navegantes, Itajai, Itapoa and San Francisco. The South, generating more than 20,000 direct and indirect jobs, with significant federal, state, and municipal tax collection, in addition to revenue and economic turnover.

7 – It is important to note that it is estimated that a container can generate movement in the local economy of around R$1.6k across the entire supply chain. Thus, if we consider the period from 2010 to 2021, the activities of the port of Santa Catarina brought about 32.7 billion reais in foreign currency to nearby cities.

8 – Competitive ports with guaranteed routes to major world markets, at competitive costs, are essential for Santa Catarina and for Brazil – in this sense, we must of course guarantee regulatory inspections to stop abuses – however, never jeopardize the free competition.
