The Saragasu Fishing Ranch in Barra da Lagoa, Florianopolis, has already begun preparations for next year’s mullet harvest, which begins with a special initiative: a rowing school to teach the art of artisanal fishing. A way to keep this tradition alive and pass on the knowledge of experienced fishermen to more and more people.

The initiative comes from the ranch itself, but is backed by Florianopolis City Hall, the PMA (Environmental Military Police) and the Tamar Project. Classes have already begun, and the students even have uniforms. They follow the explanation, because the activity requires dedication.
The idea is to move the ranch throughout the year and even serve as a guide for visitors and tourists so they can get up close and personal with the artisanal fishing tradition.
