Osmar Polo, CEO of T-Systems Iberia, was appointed as the new President of the German Chamber of Commerce in Spain at the Regular and Extraordinary General Assembly of Partners held in Madrid.

After four years with Javier González Pareja, President of Bosch in Spain and Portugal, as head of the German Chamber of Commerce, the director of T-Systems Iberia becomes head of the institution.

Osmar Polo graduated in Economics from the University of Sant’Anna, holds an MBA from the University of São Paulo, and completed the Management Development Program at IESE Business School and the Digital Transformation Management Program at IMD Business School in Switzerland.

His professional career includes almost 25 years of experience in the information technology market, 15 of which with the Deutsche Telekom Group, where he has held various senior positions in the operating units where he developed strategic and financial functions. He previously worked for EY, Sun Microsystems and Volkswagen in Brazil, Germany and Spain.

As reported ServimediaAlong with the appointment of Osmar Polo as the new President, the Board of Directors also approved the appointment of Miguel Angel López, CEO of Siemens Spain, as the new Vice Presidents; and Bernardo Canahuati, CEO of Bayer Spain and Portugal.

Miguel Angel López, who holds a degree in business administration from the Berufsakademie Mannheim and an MBA from the University of Toronto, has led Siemens in Spain since December 2018. He combines this position with the presidency of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.

Lopez has spent the majority of his nearly 30-year career at Siemens AG, 16 years as CFO in various business units and ten of them in Digital Factory, where he achieved significant results in areas such as portfolio optimization and profitability improvement.

For his part, Bernardo Canahuati has been CEO of Bayer Spain and Portugal since 2018 and current Vice President of Farmmaindustria. Canahuati joined Bayer in 2002, earning a degree in Industrial Engineering and Systems from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey and an MBA in International Management from ESADE.

Since then, he has held various leadership roles internationally, including Head of Pharmaceuticals in Mexico, North Africa and Eastern Europe, as well as corporate positions, including Chief of Staff to the President of the Pharmaceuticals Division.

During the General Assembly, in his last public speech as President of the German Chamber, Javier González Pareja reviewed some of the goals achieved during his mandate, such as “the digitization of an institution that, as an engine of innovation during the pandemic, has contributed to the rapprochement of the German Chamber with its members and the flexibility of working models”.

Similarly, Osmar Polo expressed his satisfaction after being elected as the new President of the German Chamber and “recognition of the outgoing President and the entire Board of Directors for the excellent work done at this stage”. “I think there are some very motivating and great challenges ahead of us in the coming years that we can contribute to through innovation and hard work,” he said.

Following the General Assembly, new members were appointed to the Board of Directors, which represents the 1,100 companies associated with the German Chamber of Commerce: Klaus Grande, CEO of Lidl Spain; Neus Mas, CEO of Unex Electrical Equipment; Jorge Masalles, CEO of the Spanish branch of Commerzbank AG; Juan Carlos Moro, CEO of DB Schenker’s Iberia; Francisco Perez Botello, President of Volkswagen Group Spain; Montse Planas, Managing Director of Fresenius Kabi; and Raul Sanguino, CEO of TÜV SÜD in Spain and Portugal.

There was also a renewal in the composition of this body of Julia Hillenbrand, Lufthansa Group CEO for Spain and Portugal; Maria Lopez Palacin, manager of Industrias López Soriano; Monica Martinez Walter, President of GMV; Rafael Merinero, CEO of Witzenmann Spain; Josep Santacreu, CEO of DKV Seguros; and Adolfo Varillas, Managing Director of Brose.
