Nine days after the disappearance of the Austrian tourist in Florianópolis, the CBMSC (Military Fire Service of Santa Catarina) announced this Saturday (28) that the search for Michael Lichtenegger, 40 years old, has been temporarily suspended.
The CBMSC statement explained that teams used drones and carried out an intensive “sweep” of several locations on the beach.
“After nine days of searching the region using drones and dog teams on the trails, flying over Arkhangelsk and combing the coasts and beaches of the region with a boat, the Center temporarily suspended the search for the Austrian tourist,” the information says.
According to the fire service, the Air Operations Battalion team remains on alert to look for possible new signs of the hiker.
Michael Lichtenegger was last seen on October 19th. Surveillance footage shows the hiker allegedly returning from the Joaquin Beach beach trail.
The footage shows Michael hiding a backpack under a wooden deck and then walking in the opposite direction.
Civilian police returned to Joaquin Beach on Friday (27) to check other records that could point to the whereabouts of the tourist. The photos were taken from the restaurant where he was last seen, but from a different angle.
On Thursday (25), the Florianópolis Police Station for the Protection of Tourists asked the Ministry of Justice to violate the confidentiality of Lichtenegger’s digital data so that his mobile phone could be examined.
