Former president and presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) says that if elected, he is thinking about working on a “chopped” process of change in the country’s tax model.
Lula has already said that he intends to make the tax system more progressive to satisfy businesses and consumers, and that he can unify taxes. Information taken from the Gazeta do Povo website.
In April, the PT had already said at a meeting with the central unions that tax reform needed to be carried out so that they collect more taxes from the upper classes.
There are currently at least three PECs (Proposals to Amend the Constitution) in Congress that talk about structural changes to the Brazilian tax model – PECs 45/2019, 110/2019 and 7/2020.
For a candidate, a proposal for a new tax policy will have a better chance of moving forward if it starts with discussion among various segments.
