The civil police of Bombinhas, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, rescued last Tuesday (28) a dog that appeared on video being beaten with flip-flops. The video went viral on social media, leading police to the location where the images were taken.
Those responsible for beating the dog have been identified
According to Civil Police, the dog was seized and taken to the city’s animal control center, where it was treated by a veterinarian and given a microchip. He has now been placed in a temporary home where he will remain until the investigation is completed.
The action was attended by the NGO Protetores dos Animais de Bombinhas, as well as veterinarians from the Animal Observation Center and the city animal protection department.
Since the video was published a few days ago, there was no serious situation and, therefore, no suspects could be arrested. However, the culprits remain under investigation by civilian police.
Agents said they will be stepping up efforts to investigate crimes involving animal cruelty. Depending on each case, a red-handed arrest may be made, a police investigation may be initiated, or a citation may be issued on the spot. Anyone who reports false abuse may be investigated for defamatory reporting.
