The 5th richest city in Santa Catarina, San José, in Greater Florianopolis, has a strong economy and several strong companies that strengthen the municipality. The city, which turns 273 this Sunday (19), has its economic base in the areas of industry, trade and services. In this last segment, one company that stands out is Orbenk, which, in the jargon of the business world, provides “services” to its clients in the public and private spheres. Services are infrastructure services such as cleaning, security, and maintenance that make the day-to-day life of an organization easier and are not related to their core business.

“We provide services that are not included in the main activity [negócio principal] companies. We cover professional cleaning, asset protection, dedicated support services, process and team outsourcing, catering solutions and corporate restaurant management,” explains Denilson Brand Marketing Manager Louis Uzinski.

He recalls that a tech company, for example, starts small, grows and needs to build services like security or cleaning. That is, requirements that take the time and energy of managers who have skills in other areas not related to the main core. “It becomes a burden for them, so Orbenk offers such services, amenities. We help companies grow and develop, allowing them to focus on their own business,” emphasizes Uzinski.

Relationship with San Jose

Since arriving in San Jose, Orbenk has conquered brands such as Dimas, Fortbras, Dialogue, CiaLatina and Senai. San José is owned by the Florianopolis Operations Post, one of the subsidiaries that support regions where the company has a larger presence, in this region it has a portfolio of 116 clients, including public and private companies.

“San Jose is a place we want to expand. But the importance of the city for the company is that we always try to work for the region. San José helps balance our business, and we create a lot of jobs that help the city because we always take labor from the municipality itself to fill local vacancies,” Uzinsky emphasizes.

He also drew attention to San Jose’s current motto: Growth and Prosperity. “In this understanding, our role is fundamental for companies, both private and public, as we help both sectors not to waste energy on requirements that are not the essence of their business,” emphasizes Uzinsky.

The basis

The cornerstone of Orbenok was laid in the 1980s by Alcides Benckendorff. As soon as he arrived in Joinville, in the north of the state, he realized that it was necessary to watch and take care of certain places in the city. Thus, he won the first clients and started Orbenok’s trajectory. At the beginning of all this, Alcides acted as a vigilante, circling the city on a bicycle.

Entrepreneurial vision, customer commitment and simplicity have always been the hallmarks of Alcides Benkendorf. Years later, the company added cleaning and conservation services until it was renamed Siban in April 1986. The change to Orbenk took place in 1998. The word represents the union “organization” with the surname “Benkendorf”.

The observational work that Alcides Benckendorff began in Joinville in the 1980s on his bicycle extended beyond Joinville. Today, in anticipation of the celebration of the 37th anniversary of the market, Orbenk is present in nine states: Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Parana, Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Mato -Grosso and the Federal District. However, most of the 798 customers are in the Southern region. Nearly three decades later, in 2023, more than 24,000 Alcides employees monitor, clean or welcome public or private companies in more than 180 cities in Brazil, such as the beloved San José.
