This Monday morning (23), civilian police completed their investigation of 32-year-old Colombian anesthesiologist Andrés Eduardo Onate Carrillo, who was arrested on January 15 for raping a vulnerable man in the surgical center of a hospital in Rio de Janeiro.

He is also under investigation for possession of child pornography at his home in Barra da Tijuca. In his statement to the police, the doctor admitted that he used the services of patients when he was alone with them.

The delegate in charge of the case, Luis Enrique Marquez of the Rio de Janeiro police station for children and adolescent victims, said the report had been sent to the prosecutor’s office. If found guilty, the punishment for rape can range from eight to 15 years in prison.

Jail

At a custody hearing last Monday (16) at the Detention Hearing Center in Benfica, in northern Rio, Judge Mariana de Tavares Chou upheld the anesthetist’s arrest.

He was accused of raping a vulnerable person during surgical interventions on patients admitted to hospitals, and of indecent acts involving minors.

Arrested on Sunday (15) in his apartment, Andres had a temporary arrest warrant issued by the 31st Criminal Court of the capital, and its validity has not yet expired.

The judge also stated that the arrest warrant is valid and the decision that motivated the expedition has not changed, so the decision of the ECAC (Central Custody Hearing) cannot assess the defense’s motion for relief, release or commutation of imprisonment with another measure of punishment.
