Historically, the abstention rate in the second round tends to be higher than in the first. In the first round, 20.95% of the country’s voters did not appear at the polling stations. In Santa Catarina, this figure was 18.4%. This number of voters who did not vote on October 2 was large, and this is not good.

The statistics have worried several sectors of society, including two campaigns of presidential candidates Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT). On October 30, business entities also demonstrated the importance of exercising citizenship.

Cofem (Council of Business Federations of Santa Catarina), which brings together the economic power of the state, stressed the importance of the participation of citizens of Santa Catarina in the second round of elections, including those who are not required to vote.

It is important for the organization to ensure that the values everyone stands for are taken into account in public administration, which will begin in January 2023.

In addition, more than ever, the national goals provided for in our Constitution, such as freedom, free enterprise, the guarantee of private property, the recognition of national symbols, and diligence in public accounts, must be valued more than ever.

The citizen of Brazil must ensure that those elected effectively represent the opinion of the majority. To do this, he must exercise the right to vote, even if it is no longer mandatory, and determine the future of our country and our state.
