A video posted to TikTok this week by biologist Biomesquita shows a bizarre species of arachnid, the solfuge. Popularly known as camel spiders, they inhabit drier regions such as deserts.
The content creator explained that, oddly enough, the maximum that this animal can do to humans is a bite that does not cause more pain than, for example, a bee sting. Despite the similarities, Solifuges are not actually spiders.
An interesting feature of the camel spider is that it can run at speeds up to 16 km / h, which is necessary to catch prey, since it is an active hunter. This animal usually does not exceed 10 cm in length and feeds on scorpions and smaller spiders.
Biomesquita also pointed out that there are about seven types of solifuge in Brazil.
