According to reports, the man fell asleep face down, causing blood vessels in his eyeball to rupture. After three days of blindness and severe pain in his left eye, he sought medical attention at a local emergency room.

The patient attributed his symptoms to a night of excess during which he consumed alcohol and insomnia medication, losing consciousness for three hours.

Medical examination revealed hemorrhage due to rupture of blood vessels caused by pressure exerted during sleep. He was diagnosed with ischemic optic neuropathy and choroidopathy, conditions that resulted in permanent loss of vision in his left eye.

What diseases left a person blind?

Ischemic optic neuropathy is a condition in which blood flow to the optic nerve is disrupted, resulting in permanent vision loss. This is because the optic nerve, which is responsible for transmitting visual signals from the eye to the brain, can deteriorate and die over time due to lack of oxygen and nutrients. However, many affected patients still have some peripheral vision.

Individuals with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart problems, and diabetes are at greater risk of developing ischemic optic neuropathy due to the effects these conditions have on circulation.

Choroidopathy is a disease characterized by a buildup of fluid under the retina, the part of the eye responsible for capturing light and converting it into images. Common symptoms include dark, blurry areas of central vision, distorted vision, and the feeling that objects appear smaller or further away than they actually are.

The case serves as a warning about the potential dangers of sleeping in positions that put pressure on the eyes, especially when combined with excessive alcohol consumption.
