With the highest HDI (Human Development Index) among Brazilian capitals, according to the Atlas of Human Development of Brazil, Florianópolis stands out not only for its natural beauties, but also for numbers that take into account longevity, education, security, health and income, positive aspects that ultimately attract people to a city of people from all states and even from outside the country.
Several activities have been carried out to reduce and minimize the environmental impact during the hottest time of the year. As part of efforts to achieve zero waste by 2030, the capital stopped emissions of more than 4,000 tons of greenhouse gases in January alone, a result achieved through recycling processes that reduce the amount of waste destined for sanitary landfills.
In order to raise awareness and preserve the natural beauties of the island, Destino SC promoted activities that not only entertained but also helped the environment. Arena, which has invaded not only the beaches of the island but also the coast of Santa Catarina, has partnered with Meu Copo Eco, a company that has been aiming for 10 years to reduce its environmental impact by up to 25 times with recycled cups. .

During the actions, bathers were able to exchange the waste that will be thrown into the sand for reusable cups. Martin Jufflino, entrepreneur at Meu Copo Eco, explains that this initiative has already collected hundreds of kilograms of litter from the beaches in the last three events: “We hope that such an initiative will help raise awareness among tourists. and residents who visit the area. We hope that by taking home a used cup, we will take the first step towards introducing other sustainable practices into everyday life.”
During the summer seasons, Destino Sports Complex has already distributed over a thousand units of reusable cups. Martin says this simple swap will save 10,000 disposable cups to be used by the public.
Fernando Villa, Head of Marketing at Grupo ND, points out that recycled bags were also distributed to vacationers in Itajaí during the summer. “About 400 units were distributed thanks to the support of our sponsor, Haack Empreendimentos. We know these actions make a difference and ensure local conservation for a more memorable summer in Santa Catarina.”
Actions that can help save the environment in summer:
Whether you are a tourist or a local, know that practical advice will help preserve the natural beauty of our coast.
keep the beach clean
How about adopting the practice of picking up the trash found on the beach and placing it in the appropriate trash cans? Changing the behavior of the environment can be triggered by your action.
Separate!
Whether on vacation or not, create a practice of participating in selective collection, sending recyclable waste for reuse. Consult when and how the selective collection is carried out by the mayor’s office, this service is extremely important for the activities of associations and cooperatives.
Beware of Critical Debris
There are PEVs (Voluntary Delivery Points) for the collection and disposal of critical waste such as batteries. Never throw this type of item in the general trash or on the beaches in the region.
Contribute to a more sustainable future through small daily actions.
