Following rumors that he was hospitalized due to psychotic episodes, Casa de Saúde consultant São José denied the rumors and explained that Mayer’s hospitalization was already planned.

“His return to Casa de Saúde São José has already been planned since his last discharge and is part of the expected procedure following the successful completion of the injection phase last week. The news that the actor allegedly had a psychotic break is completely untrue and disrespectful,” the hospital’s official position read in a UOL note.

understand the disease

GPA (granulomatosis with polyangiitis) is a rare autoimmune disease that occurs more often in people over 50 years of age. The condition is part of a group of diseases called vasculitis, i.e. which inflame blood vessels and reduce blood flow to organs and tissues, causing damage.

The cause of GPA is unknown, symptoms include kidney failure and pulmonary hemorrhage. Diagnosis is usually made with laboratory tests and a biopsy to confirm vasculitis.

The actor was already hospitalized in February. At the time, he was discharged after spending 19 days in the same hospital with a respiratory infection.
