UFSC (Federal University of Santa Catarina) is facing a wave of cases of abdominal cramps at the Trindade campus in Florianopolis. There were so many people who reported pain that the university asked for an investigation from the epidemiological surveillance and published the news on the official website on Tuesday (14).
According to a UFSC publication, the university’s DAS (Department of Health) has asked the Florianopolis Epidemiological Surveillance Service to conduct a technical visit to the Trindade campus to investigate a number of reports of abdominal cramps, diarrhea and, in some cases, vomiting, nausea and fever. The folder will be assembled in place to detect the problem.
DAS director Nicole Doneda Ruzza says people with these symptoms are advised to seek medical attention. Some cases have been reported among UFSC students and staff, as well as children and parents of NDI (Núcleo de Desenvolvimento Infantil) students.
Collection of additional information on the case
According to the university, the oversight will determine if there is an outbreak in the city or only within the UFSC.
However, in an interview with Portal ND+Florianopolis Epidemiological Surveillance Manager Ana Cristina Vidor, explained that the outbreak had not yet been set up and that they were gathering information on the matter.
