They call it a French trick “French Girl Makeup”and this is the je-ne-sais-quoi of the Parisians, a style with not too elaborate effect, sexy without layers of makeup, attractive even without false eyelashes or Online (lip pencil on a natural contour). Difficult to define in words, but very clear in the collective imagination. Elements? skin looks bare healthy complexion, well combed eyelashes and eyebrows, red or ruddy lips. Elements that are perfect for this time of year: after winter when we experimented with rich colors and graphic or flipped eyeliners, glossy lipsticks and strategic highlighters, like every spring, it’s time to subtract, alleviatedilute.
“French” makeup, how to do
In the spring, the first thing that changes is what we put on our face: we opt for lighter creams with SPF, we change the foundation because we want it to be more fluid and less matte, we start using bronzers again, which, thanks to new lighter shades also work well on non-tanned skin. Above all, we want and must banish this winter greyness, partly with outdoor living and weekends away from the city, and partly with the right makeup. But what? “We can apply a light primer and then some concealer to even out the complexion, or a tinted sunscreen or something like that. light and bright foundations”, says Sarah Di Stefano, celebrity makeup artist. “I also really like the effect of cream bronzers, perfect for correcting a dull complexion: they create the effect of a day in the sun, but do not add layer, they are very transparent, almost better applied than powders. They are applied similar to the contouring technique, but let’s be clear, they don’t change facial features, they just warm up the skin. It starts from the contour of the face, goes to the cheekbones and a little to the nose. Some call it technique 3: the number is drawn on the top of the forehead, running from the temples to the cheeks and down to the chin.
Just softness, no hard lines
The eyes are slightly made up, it’s true, but something is needed. Certainly not sharp eyeliner or pencil lines. Mascara is just as necessary as styling brows with clear wax. They should not be darkened, in any case they should be filled in with a pencil of their own color. “Then you can open your eyes a little by applying luminescent shadows in shades of beige, champagne or pink,” the makeup artist continues. “I also love the ability to add some depth with an eyeliner with a soft, thin, waterproof lead that can only be applied between the upper lashes. It becomes almost invisible, but it matters.”
“French” kissing and the health effect of the cheeks
Speaking of lines, if they are not on the eyes, not to mention the lips. The French idea is to opt for nude lipstick or gloss, but better hint of color with a matte lipstick, a colored balm, or one of those sheer products that change color based on the pH of the lip mucosa. “In general, I recommend applying lipstick leaving the outline blurry,” explains Sarah Di Stefano. “Run a stick down the center of your mouth and then spread it with your fingers, or take some red with your fingertips and then tap it against your mouth.” Another source of color is blush, the foundational element of this style: where else could we get that pink shade that makes us look healthy? “It should be chosen as a cream and applied with your fingers,” says Di Stefano. “Even the less experienced will be able to adjust the form and dosage. The desired area can be found with a smile: starting with the pen and moving outward, touch with your index finger, and then blend. In the area that is created under the cheekbone, the blush will need to blend with the bronzer. Remember that blushing is always the last step.”
