Daredevil: Netflix series creator criticizes reboot decision, ‘an old Disney scam’
Steven DeKnight didn’t hold his tongue when talking about the studio!
Because the Disney announced “reboot» from the series destroyerwhich will now appear in Disney+ and it will load the header Daredevil: Born Again, many were suspicious. On the one hand, there are those who doubt that the new series will feature the same level of violence and heavy themes as the previous production. Netflixon the other hand, there are those who speak poorly of the studio for not paying compensation to the creators of the original series.
Now the person who spoke on this topic again was Steven S. DeKnightWhat was it showrunner first season destroyer V Netflix. The producer has already spoken earlier about how he is fighting in court with Disney to get what’s rightfully his, and now he’s once again slamming the “scam” the studio used to avoid paying artists from the original series.
It all started when a fan named Thomas posted on X (old Twitter)tagging DeKnight to talk about the tactic of “renaming the series” and restoring contracts to the level of the first season – meaning they won’t have to pay the full amount to the cast and production team:
“And they canceled Daredevil as soon as the cast and crew got raises and vacation pay… The Disney+ reboot is going back to season one, according to contracts. It’s a damn scam. I wonder if Steven DeKnight knows about this!”
In response, DeKnight said it was all just “old Disney scam“, and that something similar happened in other studio series:
“It’s an old Disney scam where they vaguely change the name of the show to void the contract for the first season. This must be fought by all unions/unions and crushed!”
For those who don’t understand, TV contracts in the US have their own rules. Once a series reaches its third season, platforms are required to provide full payment, as well as compensation for vacations and time off. However, with the name change, these contracts will “go back to normal” and studios will no longer be required to make full payments.
Steven S. DeKnight served as showrunner for the first season of the Netflix series.
This isn’t the first time that actors associated with the studio have spoken out about the tactic of changing the show’s title after the first three seasons, only to go back to square one and not provide fair pay to the cast and crew. Famous series from Disney Channel went through it, like Zack and Cody: Twins in Action This Hanna Montana – who in their fourth year changed their name to Zack and Cody: Twins on Board This Hannah Montana forever.
Daredevil: Born Again filmed before actors’ and writers’ strike take over Hollywood. The series is set to bring back some members of the original series, such as Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio This Jon Bernthalwho will repeat the roles Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin This Frank Castle/Punisherrespectively.
