‘John Wick 5’ is in development, confirms Lionsgate

John Wick 4: Baba Yaga became one of the biggest movie hits of the year. And while the film’s finale raised questions about the return of Keanu Reeves’ character, the chief executive of Lionsgate, the studio responsible for the franchise, has confirmed that a fifth film is already in development.

According to Joe Drake, the production is in the early stages of development. He also spoke about other means being explored to expand the franchise, commenting:

“We’re moving fast with this franchise, not only in the AAA video game space, but also thinking about the standard pacing for spin-offs and TV, really expanding that universe so that the franchise has a steady pace as viewers are already left. Of course there is an appetite. [John Wick]”he said, according to Comic. “It’s official that Ballerina is the first spin-off to be released next year. We are developing three more, including [John Wick 5] and including the upcoming television series The Continental. So we’re building a world, and when the fifth movie comes out, it’s going to be organic — it’s going to organically grow from what we start to tell in these stories. But you can count on the usual John Wick beat.”

Previously, the director of the film indicated that the story of the protagonist was completed. “We thought that Keanu and I broke up at the moment. Let’s give John Wick a rest.” He said. However, Drake’s speech indicates that this is not going to happen and that the studio is planning for the franchise to live quite a long life.

A fifth John Wick movie has been confirmed.
