The remains of Patricia M. York, a 67-year-old woman living in Michigan, USA, were hidden in a freezer by her husband Terrell York. This Tuesday (28 years old) a man was found guilty of hiding his wife’s corpse for a year.
Although Patricia died of natural causes, Terrell chose not to tell anyone about her death, ostensibly so that he could continue receiving Social Security payments intended for his wife.
Prosecutors believe the motive behind the decision was financial. Social Security payments continued to be sent while Patricia’s body remained hidden in the device.
The judge is outraged that he hid in the freezer
The judge in charge of the case, Mark H. Duthie, expressed outrage at Terrell’s behavior, saying that the body should be treated with dignity and respect after death, and not as if it were a piece of meat.
The discovery of Patricia’s remains came when her daughter, who had not heard from her mother for two years, contacted authorities. Police visited the York residence and discovered a body in the freezer.
Terrell was found guilty of concealing a corpse last Tuesday, the 28th, and is now awaiting sentencing, which could include up to eight years in prison, according to People magazine.
