On Thursday morning (17) in Garuva, north of Santa Catarina, a man was arrested for illegal hunting of wild animals. According to civilian police, this is the third time he has been arrested for the same crime.
The arrest of the man was red-handed. During a police operation, a trap was found ready to catch any animal passing through the area. In addition, five wild birds, other traps, an armadillo and a chainsaw were seized from the suspect.
According to police chief Tanya Harada, the man practiced crime in neighboring areas and even claimed that the traps were not his, because they were not on his land.
“Always on someone else’s property, so much deforestation, trails [trilhas] that he opened traps. It got to the point that he set up one of the traps we found to protect himself, he claimed that it was not on his property, but the investigation has already shown that it belongs to him, ”explains the delegate.
Also, according to investigators, the man had no legal income and lived off illegal hunting, earning money from the sale of the animals he had hunted. The police are still figuring out at what prices the animals were sold and what is the income of the suspect.
Hence, a man should be responsible for crimes of illegal hunting and for obstructing the conduct of inspection activities. According to Harada, he could still be charged with the crime of taking over if it can be proven that he lived off the sale of hunted animals.
