A report commissioned by the city of Porto Belo on Santa Catarina’s north coast says that the bridge across the Pereque River, which separates Porto Belo and Itapema and was recently banned, could support the passage of cars, pedestrians and cyclists. The release is expected next Friday (19).

By release, cameras are installed that will monitor those who pass through the structure. Traffic will be allowed only for cars (even minibuses), pedestrians and cyclists. In addition, it will be possible to drive only along the central lane.

According to City Hall, this report is structural in nature and takes into account internal frameworks, unlike recent reports, which would have been visual. Even with a positive report from the mayor’s office, it is still necessary to strengthen the structure of the bridge.

The bridge is blocked by state civil defense

The state’s civil defense has demanded a complete ban on the facility, including even the army, which must build a temporary crossing to relieve traffic in the region.

Passenger cars can mathematically drive through the center lane, limiting weight, height and speed, according to a new report. All this also takes into account the age of the bridge, designed in 1979.

The report shows that despite the structural damage, there are no flexural or shear cracks/cracks, indicating the possibility that the remaining reinforcement is absorbing its own weight. The document also examined the norms of that time in comparison with the current norms, which, according to the mayor’s office, were more.

Ticket released after monitoring

Now, with the report, the city wants to issue a ticket for four months after frequent monitoring every three days. Four months are needed to conduct a new study.

It is also necessary to hire a new company to carry out the necessary repairs and reinforcements. Only then can the ticket be released.
