The man was sentenced to 13 years, 7 months and 10 days in prison for killing his ex-wife with punches and kicks, mostly on the head and face, which was mutilated. The crime took place in March 2021 in Navegantes and the conviction was handed down this Thursday (6).
The Sentencing Board found guilty by a majority for murder-related offenses with an appeal clause, making it difficult for the victim and femicide to defend themselves.
According to the complaint of the MPSC (Prosecution Office of Santa Catarina), the victim was assaulted several times by her former partner. The punches and kicks were concentrated in the area of the head and face, as a result of which the victim’s face was disfigured.
A crime
A woman was killed on March 7, 2021 after an altercation between her and a convict on the street in the center of Navegantes. According to the complaint, the victim refused to return the 15,000 reais that should have been credited to her account, and the defendant claimed that it belonged to him.
The man was already in preventive detention at the Vale do Itajaí penitentiary complex and will serve his sentence in a closed initial regime. He was denied the right to appeal the sentence at large, taking into account the punishment applied.
Women Killing Law
Law No. 13104 of 2015 amended the Brazilian Penal Code to include the crime against women (feminicide) as an increased penalty qualifier.
These are crimes resulting from domestic or family violence, when the perpetrator belongs to the victim’s family or already had affective ties with it, and also when the murder is the result of gender discrimination, regardless of whether the perpetrator is known to the victim or not.
