Investment in skills development and job creation initiatives helped Florianópolis secure the remaining 6,214 jobs created this year through April. During the reporting period, 44,853 receipts were registered against 38,639 dismissals. According to the Caged Department of Labor (General Register of Employed and Unemployed), according to the results of this indicator, the capital ranks first in the ranking of Santa Catarina.
In April 2022 alone, the balance of jobs was 2,536 people. Last year, Florianopolis already ranked first in the number of jobs in the state with 13,004 new vacancies. One of the actions that contributed to this result is the Floripa Mais Empregos program, developed by the City Hall of the capital since last year. According to the municipality, over 3,100 vacancies have been registered under this initiative to date, and 80% of these vacancies are in the trade, services and tourism sectors.
Ivan dos Santos, program coordinator, explains that the action was created with three main goals: to help rebuild the economy, create jobs and generate income. “The pandemic brought a negative balance of 12 thousand jobs in 2020, and we closed 2021 with a positive balance of more than 2,000 jobs, which means that we managed to recover the lost 12 thousand and we still created 2,000 more jobs, so we have been able to accelerate the recovery of the economy, and now we are focused on creating jobs and income, which will always be part of our goals,” he estimates.
Market Capacity Building
Ivan recalls that another very positive outcome of the actions carried out so far by Floripa Mais Empregos are the free courses offered by this initiative in partnership with institutions such as the Federal University of Santa Catarina. So far, 120 students have completed the System Engineer course, 76 have completed the Human Resources Assistant and 502 have completed the Elderly Care course.
Everyone can study for free in qualifying classes, developing skills, knowledge and new techniques. To date, 140 courses have been offered.
Registration is now open for the Elderly Care course offered by UFSC in partnership with Floripa Mais Empregos. Applications are accepted until July 30 on the site.
Web portal
The program, run in partnership with Sebrae (Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Companies), Fiesc (SC Industry Federation) and more than 40 organizations from the Santa Catarina Society, also makes available an online portal through which interested parties can register their CVs. and learn about new opportunities in the labor market.
The Floripa Mais Empregos portal consists of three pillars, the municipality says. At the first stage, candidates register their resumes, then companies announce their vacancies and, finally, people participate in training in free classes.
Also, according to the City Hall, more than 299 companies advertise vacancies through the program, and the number of resumes registered on the portal exceeds 3,800.
There are no mandatory conditions for participation of a person, the mayor’s office explains. Just go to the website, register your CV, browse the vacancies, choose the one that suits your profile and apply. The process is completely free.
For companies wishing to advertise vacancies, Ivan explains, the procedure is also very simple and convenient. You need to access the site, create a company account, and then advertise jobs. The company can advertise any number of vacancies for free. Entrepreneurs can also search for candidates in the initiative’s database.
Future plans
From now on, the intention, as coordinator Floripa Mais Empregos suggests, is to expand the offer of training courses in areas where there is a need for recruitment, such as technology. “Our goal is to increase the base of companies posting their vacancies on the portal, today we have 299 companies and an average of 350 vacancies. This year we want to reach 600,” he explains.
The focus, adds Ivan dos Santos, is the continuous training of the worker. “It is necessary to constantly improve skills and, if possible, in certain areas that are in search of qualified specialists, such as technology. A field that is growing all over the world, and there is a fierce search for professionals among companies, as a result of which the salaries of employees are higher than in other areas of business,” concludes the coordinator.
